I’m Kara! I grew up in Kailua on Oʻahu’s Windward side, where being in the water was just part of everyday life—from paddling canoes to training as a junior lifeguard. When I enrolled my son in swim safety lessons, I watched him learn skills that could truly save his life, and it completely changed how I saw water safety. That experience inspired me to get certified to teach mu own classes so I could share life-saving skills with my own community. In ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, we say “hui” for “coming together,” and that’s exactly how I see this work—we’re a hui of parents, keiki, and instructors, all helping to raise confident, capable kids in and around the water.
